On average, a tank water heater will last about 12 years. If yours is older, replacing the unit may be a more cost-effective option. Keep in mind that lower-priced water heaters are often the least efficient, making them more expensive to operate and maintain over time. Staton Heating, Cooling & Plumbing offers the following water heater options to our clients in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties.

Electric Water Heaters
Electric water heaters use heated coils to warm stored water. To heat the water, an electric current passes through electrical-resistance heating elements. There are usually two heating elements — one in the middle of the tank and one at the bottom. It tends to take longer to heat water, but electric units usually have a higher storage capacity and are an easier choice for homes that don’t have existing natural gas service. Electric water heaters have low operating costs and fit in smaller spaces. Our certified electric water heater repair technicians will arrive promptly and let you know what repairs are needed. Whether you need a repair, replacement or installation, contact Staton Heating, Cooling & Plumbing today.
Tankless Water Heaters
Staton is a Navien Certified Dealer and Installer for Tankless Water Heaters and Boilers
Tankless water heaters heat water only when you turn on the faucet. They usually operate on natural gas, propane or electricity. The main advantage is that they eliminate the extra cost of keeping 40-50 gallons of water hot in a storage tank, so you waste less energy. Electric tankless water heaters are designed according to the amount of hot water required at peak use times. The water heater has a series of heating elements that are activated based on the demand. As water demand increases more elements are activated. This is different from an electric tank water heater where the elements are never on at the same time. Gas tankless water heaters operate by heating the water as it passes through the natural gas or propane heat exchanger. Staton Heating, Cooling & Plumbing’s experienced technicians have matched families with the right tankless water heater solution for their home and needs, helping them save hundreds of dollars a year in the process.

In the meantime I was on the phone with the Washington gas getting them to return and the technician redid the outside meter for me so that I could take pictures showing evidence of the leak.
On top of that he said he spoke to his manager and was not going to charge me for the evaluation which I was fully expecting to pay for because they came out and did their job it wasn't their fault that Washington gas was incorrect in their original evaluation.
I'm not even a returning customer this was a new customer experience because the HVAC company that we normally use told me it would be a week until they could get somebody out to assess which is unrealistic for a gas leak and your gas is turned off in the middle of winter with two babies at home meaning no heat and no hot water.
At this time I don't have any resolution for the gas leak because I'm waiting on Washington gas but I'm incredibly impressed with their responsiveness and how diligent they were in their process. They easily could have come in said oh that's where Washington gas said the leak was great it's going to be $2,500 to repair this inside line. Not only did they not do that but they also did their due diligence to diagnose the leak correctly which is ultimately going to keep my family safe.
The technician Stephen was also really nice guy. He did not blow off my concerns and /or my suggestions/questions and showed me what was going on instead of just rambling off with details. I appreciate expertise but I also need to know what it means in layman's terms as a homeowner. And I don't always have that experience when dealing with home repairs.
Looking forward to working with them in the future.
