Tankless Water Heater Services in Central Maryland

Book Online Now

Tankless water heaters rely on precise water flow, temperature sensing, heating, venting and system controls to produce hot water when it is needed. When one part of that sequence fails, the unit may stop heating, display an error code, shut down unexpectedly or deliver inconsistent water temperatures.

Staton Heating, Cooling & Plumbing provides tankless water heater repair, installation, replacement and maintenance throughout Central Maryland. As a Navien Certified Dealer and Installer, we service tankless equipment with an understanding of the components, controls and installation requirements that distinguish these systems from traditional storage-tank water heaters.

Our tankless water heater technicians inspect the complete system, identify the source of the problem and explain the work needed to restore reliable operation.

Complete Tankless Water Heater Service

Tankless systems require more specialized service than conventional water heaters because heating begins only after the unit detects sufficient water flow. The control board must then coordinate ignition or electrical heating, monitor temperature and maintain safe operation while hot water is being used.

Our tankless water heater services include:

  • Tankless water heater diagnosis

  • Tankless water heater repair

  • Tankless hot water repair

  • Tankless water heater installation

  • Tankless water heater replacement

  • Tankless water heater maintenance

  • Error-code diagnosis

  • Heat-exchanger descaling

  • Water inlet filter cleaning

  • Ignition and burner service

  • Flow-sensor testing

  • Venting inspection

  • Condensate system inspection

  • Recirculation system troubleshooting

  • Leak evaluation

  • System performance testing

We focus on the tankless unit and the supporting plumbing, fuel, electrical and venting conditions that affect its operation.

Tankless Water Heater Repair

Once the source of the problem has been identified, our technician completes the repair needed to restore proper water flow, heating and system operation. The exact work depends on the unit, the failure and the condition of the supporting connections.

Tankless water heater repair may involve:

  • Replacing failed flow or temperature sensors

  • Cleaning or replacing a clogged water inlet filter

  • Descaling mineral buildup from the heat exchanger

  • Repairing or replacing ignition components

  • Cleaning and servicing the burner assembly

  • Replacing a defective gas valve or internal control

  • Repairing loose, damaged or corroded electrical connections

  • Clearing blocked intake or exhaust venting

  • Repairing condensate drains, traps or neutralizer components

  • Replacing damaged isolation valves or water connections

  • Repairing recirculation pumps, check valves or controls

  • Correcting system settings that affect temperature or operation

  • Sealing repairable leaks at fittings and connected piping

  • Replacing failed pressure-relief or safety components

  • Resetting error codes and recommissioning the unit after repairs

After completing the approved repair, our technician runs the tankless water heater through its operating sequence, confirms that it activates at the proper flow rate and verifies that it maintains the selected water temperature. We also check the repaired components for leaks, error codes or abnormal operation before completing the service.

What Our Tankless Water Heater Technicians Inspect

Tankless diagnosis requires testing the sequence that begins when a fixture is opened and continues until the system safely shuts down.

Depending on the problem, our technician may inspect:

  • Stored error information

  • Water flow through the unit

  • Incoming and outgoing water temperature

  • Water inlet filters

  • Flow and temperature sensors

  • Ignition components

  • Burner operation

  • Gas pressure and fuel delivery

  • Electrical connections

  • Air intake and exhaust venting

  • Heat-exchanger condition

  • Condensate drainage

  • Pressure relief components

  • Recirculation pumps and controls

  • Hot and cold water connections

  • Isolation and service valves

This process helps determine whether the problem originates inside the unit or from the plumbing, gas, electrical or venting systems that support it.

Tankless Error-Code Diagnosis

An error code indicates that the water heater detected an unsafe or abnormal operating condition. It provides a diagnostic starting point, but it does not always identify the final repair.

A code associated with ignition, flow, temperature or venting can have more than one possible cause. Resetting the system may temporarily restore operation without correcting the underlying problem.

Our technicians use the displayed code and system history to guide testing, then inspect the related components before recommending repair.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heater installation involves more than mounting the equipment and connecting water lines. The unit must be selected and installed according to the home’s hot-water demand and the fuel, electrical, venting and drainage requirements of the equipment.

Our installation process may include:

  • Evaluating household hot-water usage

  • Selecting properly sized equipment

  • Reviewing gas or electrical capacity

  • Planning intake and exhaust venting

  • Providing condensate drainage when required

  • Installing water and service connections

  • Installing isolation valves for future maintenance

  • Evaluating recirculation options

  • Removing the existing water heater

  • Mounting and connecting the new unit

  • Programming system controls

  • Starting and commissioning the equipment

  • Testing temperature and operation

  • Reviewing controls and maintenance requirements

A properly installed system should be able to support the home’s expected hot-water use without repeated shutdowns, temperature loss or restricted performance.

Converting to a Tankless Water Heater

A tankless water heater can often replace a traditional storage-tank system, but the conversion may require changes to the home’s gas line, electrical service, venting, water piping or condensate drainage.

Before installation, we inspect the existing setup and determine what modifications are necessary. We then explain the complete scope of work so the homeowner understands what is involved before the conversion begins.

Tankless equipment is not the right fit for every home. Homeowners who prefer to retain a conventional storage system can learn more about Staton’s broader water heater services.

Tankless Water Heater Maintenance

Tankless water heater maintenance helps preserve water flow, heat transfer, ignition reliability and safe operation.

A maintenance visit may include:

  • Inspecting the unit and accessible connections

  • Reviewing stored error codes

  • Cleaning the water inlet filter

  • Flushing or descaling the heat exchanger when appropriate

  • Inspecting burner and ignition operation

  • Checking intake and exhaust venting

  • Inspecting condensate drainage

  • Testing temperature and flow

  • Checking safety controls

  • Inspecting recirculation components

  • Verifying operation after service

Mineral buildup inside the heat exchanger can restrict flow and reduce heating performance. Maintenance needs vary according to the equipment, water quality, household usage and manufacturer recommendations.

Tankless Water Heater Replacement

Tankless water heaters are often repairable, but replacement may become more practical when the heat exchanger has failed, major components are deteriorating or the existing unit can no longer support the home’s hot-water needs.

Replacement may also be appropriate when:

  • Repairs have become frequent

  • Parts are no longer reasonably available

  • The equipment was improperly sized

  • The system has extensive scale or corrosion damage

  • The installation has significant deficiencies

  • Corrective work would approach the cost of a new system

Our technician evaluates the condition of the tankless unit and explains whether repair or replacement offers the more dependable solution.

Tankless Water Heater Leaks

Water around a tankless system may come from the unit, its plumbing connections, service valves, pressure-relief components or condensate drainage.

Our plumber traces the water to its source before recommending repair. If the leak involves connected piping or another part of the plumbing system, Staton also provides professional leak repair.

An active leak, repeated ignition failure or complete loss of hot water may require prompt service. Staton provides access to an emergency plumber when the condition cannot safely wait for a routine appointment.

Our Tankless Water Heater Service Process

1. Review the Problem

We ask what the system is doing, when the issue began and whether the unit has displayed an error code.

2. Inspect the Equipment

Our technician examines the unit, service valves, water connections, power or fuel supply, venting and other accessible components related to the problem.

3. Test System Operation

We operate the tankless water heater and test the flow, ignition, heating and control functions involved in producing hot water.

4. Identify the Cause

We determine whether the issue involves the equipment, mineral buildup, improper flow, installation conditions, utilities, venting or connected plumbing.

5. Explain the Work

We review the findings and provide repair, maintenance or replacement options before proceeding.

6. Complete and Test the Service

After completing the approved work, we restart the system and confirm that it produces hot water and operates as intended.

Matthew is extremely professional. He has an an above and beyond command of the knowledge required for his line of work. He takes time to educate and explain things so you know exactly what he’s fixing and what things to look for in the future. He even takes time to explain the different materials he’s using and the reasons why. He offers several different options as far as cost, and he doesn’t pressure you into any one or the other. He gives you the information you need and then gives you the freedom to make your choice. It is rare for me to have someone of such high standards and such professionalism working here at my house. He is courteous, caring, and an incredible listener. He redid every single thing under my kitchen sink that had been causing me problems for time now. I am over the top pleased with the work he did as well as the state and plumbing company themselves. This is an excellent company and very trustworthy.

My toilet was clogged at 10:30 at night. I called Staton plumbing at 9 o’clock in the morning the next day and they were here by noon. Matt came and couldn’t have been more professional or knowledgeable. He gave me an estimate, he fixed it and It has been working perfectly since. The price was more than fair and they even followed up the next day to make sure everything was working well. It is hard to find a company with such incredible customer satisfaction and knowledge of their trade. I would use them again in a second.

Staton Plumbing and Heating was fantastic to work with from start to finish. I was always able to get ahold of them (despite them having a hard time getting ahold of me - I do apologize for that) and everyone I spoke with was friendly and answered all of my questions. Our technician, Matt McClure, was timely and had great work ethic. He explained everything in detail and gave us three different options for the replacement of our water system that was failing, causing corrosion of our pipes and very high acidic water. All in all it was a seamless process and I highly recommend them and will also be working with them in the future if and when any other problems arise.
